Building The Place System Is An Important Way To Integrate Context In Urban Design

In China, with the fast development of cities, the character of our cities is losing day by day. One effective approach to solve this problem is to integrate the environmental context by the construction of the place systems in the cities. This is one of the most important targets for contemporary urban design. In this paper, the author focused on the theme of how to build the place systems to protect the urban context, and then preserve the character of the living environment. In the first chapter, she analyzed current urban problems about the city character and pointed out the importance to integrate environmental contexts in urban design; in the second chapter, she explored the related theories and practical cases in China and abroad, and raised her own viewpoints about the context integration in urban design. Then she explained the key terms and principal concepts in her theory about the contexts integration in the third chapter; in the forth chapter, the details about how to apply this theory to the practical cases step by step are discussed. In the last chapter, the author took one practical project of urban design as an example to demonstrate her basic ideas and methods about the context integration in fast developing urban environment.
