It has been proved a very effective method to apply the virtual instrument technology to on-line monitoring of power quality. The huge advantage of the technology have poured into new vigor for our monitoring work in data acquisition, signal processing, network communication etc. The paper improved the power quality monitoring system based on existing research accomplishment. Such as using the buffered sampling method; increasing the function of flick measurement; expanding the number of the monitoring loops.In addition, we try to make use of that technique to other aspects such as setting up the wide area phasor measurement system, developing the automatic-throwing-switch device etc. This paper also puts forward the speculation which is using virtual instrument technique to realize the phasor measurement.
