With the constant improvement of city resident's level of living and housingconstruction standard in the progress of city modernization, the renovation demandfor old housing is increasing rapidly. But owing to the influence of the conception andpolicy of "thinking much of newly-built, whereas thinking little of maintenance",which was formed for a long time, old housing in our country is in the seriouscondition of disrepair and it's renovation scope and profundity can't satisfy thedemand of city's development and housing improvement. The paper aimed at theproblems existing in the renovation of city housing at present, and integrated thesuccessful cases of housing renovation and extension throughout the world toemphasize on the practical technique of housing renovation and extension,thecombination of housing renovation and continual development of cities and theimplementation and popularization of housing renovation and extension, etc, whichwas hoped to be helpful to the future correlative research.
