A Preliminary Research On The Protection And Regeneration Of Cave Dwellings During The Course Of Urban Growth In Qingyang

The form of global human settlement is facing with the process of urbanization. This accelerative growing course has already made the relationships between the people and the nature, the people and the society become imbalance. This is the result of that the urban contains all activities of social economy meanwhile it also consumed increasingly resources and destroyed the environment finally, moreover it will make a terrible influence to the rural areas around cities.The cave-dwellings in Qingyang is nearly at the edge of life-and-death situation with the urban growth these years. The wind that the farmers constructed houses to replace the cave dwellings is blowing more and more seriously day after day. The cave dwellings which embody a kind of combination between people and nature are deserted one after another. As the substitutions, many flat-houses are constructed irregularly in the farm land. The unique cave dwellings which were made in loess is disappearing, and the culture of cave dwellings are fading in Qingyang.Based on the science of human settlements, the theory of urban growth, the theory of urban-rural integration and the theory of sustainable development, this paper proceeded with the prominent contradiction between urban growth and cave-dwellings' degeneration. After analyzing general situation and regional feature of Qingyang, the actualities of cave dwellings were evaluated in the first place which including cave dwellings' history, basic style, regional feature, green principle, culture connotation, as well as traditional cave dwellings' shortage and developing dilemma.Secondly, after analyzing the feature of urban growth which consists of population scale, area sale, economic scale, social culture, urban spatial structure and so on, the interaction relationships between the cave dwellings and every factors that affects the urban growth was discussed. The article points out that urban growth is affecting the development of cave dwellings in the positive side and negative side. The author also believesthat it is very important to make study on protection and regeneration of cave dwellings during the course of urban growth.Finally, the paper points out that it is important for Qingyang to emphasize the connotative and intensive development of urban. According to the special surface structure and actualities that the city is extending along the transportation line and river region because of the restriction caused by the mountains in the two sides of every cities in Qingyang. The author thinks it is not good to squeeze out the existence of cave dwellings during the course of urban construction, and it is necessary to emphasize the symbiosis between urban and cave dwellings. The author conceives that it is feasible to develop group-dwellings in the steep-sides of mountain and especially to adapt to constructing 'climb-slope cave dwellings which are covered with earth'. This kind of 'urban-cave dwellings' can be a continuing part of urban space and can also prevent the non-normal tend which always leads to the cities extending infinitely as a line. The author advocated rebuilding and renewing traditional cave dwellings with modern technology. The experimental units of new cave dwellings should be constructed quickly. Meanwhile the author suggests exploiting the tourism resources of cave dwellings in Qingyang, the new concepts 'cave dwellings estate 'and 'green cave-dwellings' industry ' are put forward.
