| Engineering database management system (EDBMS) is the key technique to realize CAD/CAE systems integration. In this paper, the theories and realizing technique in the FEM software development to build an object-oriented engineering database management system (OODBMS) suitable for the civil engineering CAD/CAE field are discussed in detail.Firstly object-oriented data model (OODM) is built, the object relation and operation are described formally. Then the theoretical foundation of the total system has been constructed. Afterwards, the function composition of the system is analyzed and its total structure is formed.Finally, as a practice of above idea and theory, a structureanalysis of finite element program that based on the object-oriented programming technology was rewritten in this paper. Using current popular Visual C++ and ODBC database connectivity technology, a data management program REDFEM of FEM software to effectively manage pre-processing and post-processing data was developed.
