Techniques and thermal performance tests of steam path retrofit for large capacity steam turbines are investigated in this paper. Base on analyzing the inner and outer losses of stages, the basic principle of flow passage retrofit is discussed and the retrofit approaches of steam turbines were presented. Combined the questions lying in the original design of large capacity steam turbines, this paper gives a detailed analysis to turbines retrofit on its advanced technology and the desired results. On conclusion of the application of advanced technologies of turbine retrofit, the paper presents some retrofit methods such as minimizing inlet friction losses, nozzle and bucket aerodynamic profile losses, nozzle and bucket secondary flow losses and leakage losses and so on. Then, the application effects of retrofit technology are evaluated.The paper proposes that how to further improve the turbine retrofit effect should be a key question in later work and provides specific views and suggestions for orientations of research.
