Formaldehyde (HCHO) is still a major indoor air pollutant in airtight houses. It has been the subject of numerous complaints regarding health disorders in residents. A number of studies related to the removal of HCHO have been conducted for several decades. Titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is one of the most basic materials in our daily life, has emerged as an excellent photocatalyst material for environmental purification. In this paper TiCl4 and TiOSO4 were used as raw materials to prepare stable sol, which set up the foundation for producing photo catalyzer in a big amount using ISG. Then the TiO2 thin film on the Al2O3, silicon, fiberglass cloth was prepared by dip-coating. The microstructure of the films were analyzed by XRD and SEM. To find the substrate of the coated material and the influence factors during the preparation of sol, different ways of producing sol were compared. Considering the ability of soakage, adhesion and the microstructure of the thin film, the glass fiber was chosen as one of coated substrates. An air purification device was designed. The ultraviolet can be fully used in this device as lamp-house, Since the device can control the parameters easily and need little amount of reaction gas, it was well applied in the experiments. TiO2 film was placed in this devoice。The effect of the factors on decomposition efficiency was studied, such as substrate, sol, load of photo catalyzer and experiment states. When the TiOSO4 dip-coating on the glass fiber has been photo catalysed for 4 hours, 92% formaldehyde was decomposed, whose efficiency is close to that of tetrabutyl titanate.
