Title: A Study on the Appropriate Technology of Eco-residential Community Appropriate technology is an important strategy for the construction of eco-residential community in China. This thesis consists of three parts, and it discusses the appropriate-technology strategy step by step : background — theory — practice.The first part is on the basic theory. It illustrates the connotation of technology and ecological technology from the perspective of philosophy at the beginning. Then the paper analyzed the housing status quo in China, and put forwards that appropriate-technology strategy is an effective way for the development of eco-residential community in China. In the end, what is the appropriate-technology strategy and what is the feature of appropriate technologies are explained in details.The second part is on the research and analyze. After studying all kinds of ecological technologies of eco-residential community in developed countries, it concretely describes lots of ecological technologies appropriated for the community construction in China at present. The essentiality to establish an eco-residential community assessment system is also demonstrated in this part. From the view of how to express the appropriate-technology strategy in an assessment system, the paper introduces a newly-built system named the Technical Specification for Tianjin Eco-residential Area Construction, which was complied by a committee of experts in Tianjin including the author's advisor.The last part is on the idea and methodology of practice. A series of practical projects in China are used as examples to illustrate the effect of appropriate technology strategy. The challenges and opportunities of this strategy are also discussed.
