The history of porous journal bearing, the materials and machining technics of porous journal bearing, the present study, the three hydrodynamic theories and the difference between them have been firstly introduced in the paper. Subsequently, this paper applies Darcy Model to develop a ameliorative theoretical model, and introduces the Brinkman Model developed by Lin. Then, a finite difference technique is used to solve these two models, and compares the results of ameliorative Darcy Model with the results of Brinkman Model.In this paper the testing worktable for testing the tribology performance is designed. The structure of testing worktable, the measure principle and parts of testing table are introduced. Error of testing table is also analysed.Experimental investigations of porous bearings have been carried out. Purpose of experimental investigations is to find effect of oil viscosity, additive of oil, permeability of bearing material, surface roughness and temperature.The results are follows:1. The ameliorative Darcy Model in this paper is simpler than Brinkman Model, and more accurate than fore Darcy Model, it's results are close to Brinkman Model. So the ameliorative is valuable.2. The results of theoretic investigations indicate that properly decreasing permeability or increasing the width of bearings or decreasing the thickness of bearings can obtain better tribology performance of porous bearings.3. This testing worktable affords basement and reference for the experimental investigation of Porous bearing tribology performance.4. According to experimental investigation, modified external surface, oil viscosity, additive of oil, roughness and permeability have great effect on the performance of porous bearings. The temperature is higher, the performance of porous bearing is better.5. According to the results of experimental investigation, the key way to increase performance of porous bearing is to develop self-applyingability of oil and decrease oil leak in radial direction. The low viscosity oil is better.We can get a first appreciation of Porous bearing tribology performance by the study, moreover, it affords basement and reference for the investigation of Porous bearing tribology performance.This project is supported by a grant from the National Natural Science Foundation of China which the authorizing number is 50375141.
