Due to formed and generated gradually through people's natural and comfort pedestrian transportation mode, traditional urban space and life have the spatial characteristic of embodying humanity and environment. Along with the development of modern technology, industrial civilization and information culture which bring us abundant material achievement and high convenient life mode, the communication between people and close intercourse on space and society have been obstructed step by step. Automobiles seem to control the city and the public spaces in city have been crowded with cars. The area that people are able to do their activities and walk leisurely is becoming smaller and smaller. It is more inconvenient to come outdoors on foot. Nevertheless, public spaces would have little attraction to people and lose their positive urban particularity and development impetus finally because they have short of diversification of people and activities.Through summarizing and researching development experiences in domestic and foreign city walking conditions, this dissertation brought forward the opinion that building systematism city pedestrian is the unique way to create positive urban communal spaces. The emphasis is laid on finding out the correlation between various elements which have relationship with regional pedestrian system (mainly on the walking system in city centre) in order to analyze the thought way and design concept for contemporary city pedestrian development from the view of urban design. And discuss what countermeasures in our country should be taken to develop the pedestrianism in city centre integrating with our particular situation. The whole essay is divided into three main sections with five chapters.Part One: In chapter one, it begins with a broad review on pedestrian and walking activities supporting the research aim and practical meaning. The main research method is confirmed in chapter two-systemic thought and analysis methodology. Provide the conceptual and estimation principles for walking system and make the clear direction for further research.Part Two: In chapter three, on microcosmic level, the relationship between every constituent element inside walking system is analyzed in details. Set up the basic organization structure through expatiating on the conversion process which is from individual to systemic configuration according to two aspects: spatial structure and traffic organization. In chapter four, board aspects are elaborated, discussing thewalking system's development mechanism and approaches under urban environment. The configuration principles and aims, which regional urban pedestrian system (mainly referred to the walking system in city centre) need to cooperate closely with commercial development, improvement of traffic, protection of old city, conservation of historical culture and creation of humanity urban space, are put forward in this chapter.Part Three: Chapter five focuses on the synthesis of the development generalization and trend for our country's pedestrian system in centre region, pointing out some practical problems in current domestic urban central pedestrian, mainly on construction and alteration of pedestrian street. And then apply the conclusions from former several chapters to find out the suitable principals and feasible measures for the construction of pedestrian system which are suitable for our practical situation and demand for development. This is also the primary research production of this thesis. The idea based on people's behaviour, psychology and needs from society go through the whole paper. Make urbanists and designers pay more attention to the pedestrian and urban walking life, recover people's primary status in cities, thereby make it reality that people play an important role in these designs.
