Chongqing Central Park:a Reaserch On The Transformation And The Dynamic Mechanism Of Urban Public Space

Chongqing’s Central Park was built in1929, which is the first municipal park ofChongqing. In1950the name of the park was changed to the People Park. As thehistorical park and the most important area during the urban renewal of Chongqing city,the research on the evolution of Chongqing’s Central Park will have importanthistorical research value and can help to guide the development of this area during therenewal process of old districts in the future.The research on the evolution of spaces should be discussed in the field includingcountry, history, society and culture factors. Using the theoretical model which iscreated by Heri Lefevbvre, this thesis analyses the space from three dimensionsincluding the physical space dimension, social space dimension and spiritual spacedimension. Besides the analysis model, this thesis tries to use diversified methods suchlike looking up history data, interviewing and site investigating to restore the processof the evolution of People Park and the surrounding spaces of the city.In the beginning of the thesis, through the analysis and summarization of thebackground of the practice and theory of the urban park in the period of Republic ofChina the papers discussed reason to build the Central Park of Chongqing based on theenvironment of whole country and the local demand. Then there is a deep descriptionof transformation in space pattern, city environment and government policy of theCentral Park during three historical periods. the Provisional Capital Era, the CentralPlanning Era and Municipality Era. In the discussion of each period, there is a cultureanalysis to summarize the image of the urban park. After the basic combing the historyof the People Park, there is a summarization to show the evolvement rule of the PeoplePark and a power analysis on the transformation of People Park. In this part, thesocial.economic analysis is useful to show the process of the park operation and socialtransformation. What is more, the transformation of space image will also be discussedin this chapter to show the change of the public idea in people’s daily life. At the lastchapter there is an investigation the People Park to show the present situation. Basedon the real environment, it is be badly in need of the rebuild of the public space inPeople Park. As an urban planner, the author tries to give some suggestion on urbandesign and urban management policy to the future development of the People Park.
