The gas Meter is a kind of serialization products. Although the main difference is that gas meters of the same series possess different flux, they have the comparability in the entire structure. The new products may be fully designed on the base of structure of the same series products, which doesn't need to do from beginning. Furthermore, the products belonging to different series are same or similar in structure. We can modify the old product to obtain accessory graphics of new product, and make 3D assembly graphics of new type gas meter by reassembling. The software may avoid repeating job in the most extent and improve efficiency of design in order to make designer develop new products. The thesis is on development of The Parametric Design System of Gas Meter Series (Gas Meter-PSDS) on the base of characters in gas meter serial design. This is 3d graphics design software. The hard core technology is reuse of COM groupware, OpenGL, ODBC, graphics transform, alternation etc.I innovate in the structure of G16 industrial gas meter in the prophase of the software development, draw 3d entitative model of gas meter structure by UG, and process the analysis and entire design of Gas Meter-PSDS software. The software includes parametric design module, assembly module, dynamic simulation module, section module of accessory and database management module which compose of the framework of essential functions. The software has a graphic database of gas meter accessory which is established by SQL Server 2000. The designer saves the result of parametric design in the database. When demonstrate dynamic simulation and modify the dimension of structure, the software can load data file of graphics from the database.The author brings forward one design way of CAD software in mechanical products. The way which is based on the reuse of COM groupware provides the road of development CAD software in mechanical products. Presently, there is not a kind of CAD software for designing gas meter in the world. The thesis possesses the practical value and provides basal theory and practical experience for rapid CAD/CAM of gas meter in the small or medium-sized company.
