Along with the continuous request to a faster and lighter vehicle, the requirement on power, volume and weight of its engine are also enhanced. At present in China, the method of analogy and testing are widely used for engine design, so to cause the problem of surplus strength and rigidity are existed in most of the products while some products have problem of short strength and rigidity. That limits the improvement of technical level and quality of products that are very difficult to meet the request of today's market.This thesis is trying to use FE analysis technology to analyze the strength and rigidity of cylinder block at the design and development of Q475 engine. During the whole research activities, the author of this thesis uses first the primary-designed cylinder block geometric model and the experienced datum of some original digital prototypes, to build successfully the model for FE analysis. Them to analyze the static strength of the cylinder block with advanced FE analysis technology and carry out comparative analysis with mature and reliable similar assembly. In the meantime, considering the cylinder block is a performance structure assembly, which will be effected in various working condition at actual operation, therefore combining with FE dynamic analysis, mode and instantaneous respond analysis, completely simulate the rigidity and strength of cylinder block structure under the condition of static, various loads and shocks in the computer, and also calculate out the results in all conditions. After completed the analysis, using the R.P.M technology to build the prototype engine and made bench test. In the meantime connected the bench test, verified the feasibility and reliability of structure of the cylinder block. Because of the application of this method and successful research of this task, the design time has been shortened effectively and the error at repeated tests and judgment by experience has also been reduced. It's the first time to apply the design theory and method of virtual prototype engine at the design and development of actual engineering products.By this research work, the problem of critical assembly has been solved at design and development of Q475 engine and ensured the development quality and time schedule of engine, and also accumulated valuable technical datum and experience for performing advanced design technology, proved the feasibility of design technology with virtual prototype at engine development. It is a very important demonstration for the application of FE analysis technology in the enterprise and at the future development of products.
