Concurrent engineering, agile manufacturing and lean production are the advanced production manners in the 21st century. Network supported collaborative design is one of important technology of advanced manufacturing technology. It's purpose to built a shared, integrated and collaborative model for production design. With its help, time of production designing can be reduced and quality of production can be improved. Then there is more opportunity to obtain market shares.Sharing of production model and collaborative modeling based on network is the kernel of realizing collaborative design through network. It is also one of emphasis in network supported collaborative design to study. Now, feature modeling has been the mainstream method of CAD modeling. Moreover, it is still developing and will become more perfect. Supported by the NSFC (NO.51075113), this paper study on real-time collaborative feature modeling technology based on network. Main works are as follows:â‘  With distribute network, real-time collaboration based on network requires that design data be centralized managed and revolve conflict of collaborative design process. At the same time, network linkage is required to have high reliability and stability. So a multi-server/client system structure been developed. With multi-server's uniting through server conflict negotiate mechanism, collaborative design process managed by multi-server be realized. It is not only to make managing design data centralized easily, but also to make design process improved in security and stability.â‘¡ In order to adapt the needs of heterogeneous network environment and heterogeneous software and hardware environment, a multi-agent system model has been studied. According to the function, different part of system been packed as different self-governed component agent. Same function part can be packed into different component according to different environment. But all components have same interface for communication. Collaborative system build can be realized by selecting different component according to the environment.â‘¢ Because traditional CAD geometric model description method can not satisfy the needing of real-time data transmission by network. CFMN (Collaborative Feature Model for Network) has been defined as the medium of data exchange or conservation on network. With construction element's describing geometric mode, data of description geometric model is cut down. At the same time, ID is introduced as the caption of local data. Then, local operations of design data and methods of local data transmission by network are developed. It enhanced the capability of real-time rapid response.â‘£ Network function is added to Pro/E 2000i by re-design Pro/E 2000i feature modeling system. With communication component for client and collaborative design server are designed, real-time collaborative modeling system be built based on network.
