Auto body is a very important part of automotive, and the design of auto body is a very important process in the auto design. Since the market competition is becoming more and more cruel, computer supported collaborative design is a new trend to shorten cycle, reduce cost and improve efficiency. The thesis researched the theory of collaborative design, practice it in auto body design, illustrate the system structure of body collaborative design, and has researched correspond issue, edition issue, conflict issue and security issue. One of the key technologies is maintaining the consistency of models in collaborative design. As general parts have simple structure and regular shapes, we usually realize it through picking up the features of parts, saving the features and modeling. But auto body has complicated structure and anomalous shape, so the method above is unpractical. By inspired software Unigraphics' macro command, we conduct secondary development of Unigraphics, use macro file and succeed it.Another key technology is how to manage the collaborative design system and distribute the role and task to collaborative member. The collaborative member including collaborative operation user and collaborative observation user are all controlled by administrator. To convenience observation user to observe model and reduce the quantities of data being transmitted, we design the collaborative observation software which is in VRML format.Based on Unigraphics platform, we established a collaborative design system in client/server frame using C++BUILD to communicate information and transmit data, VC++ to build the collaborative observation software, secondary development of Unigraphics to satisfied needs of collaboration.
