Regional Technology And Architectural Morphology

Globalization and cultural convergence are becoming a common phenomena nowadays. Dealing simply with different environmental conditions by modern technological methods, has not merely damage local culture characteristics, but also has made the principle of architectural activities deviated from the natural laws, with the increasing criticism of modern architecture, people realize the necessity and urgency of respecting nature and developing regional cultural tradition. Thereupon, people start to consider again how to adopt a correct attitude towards "tradition" and "modern" in architectural design.Natural conditions of a region have great restriction to and influence on the formation of traditional architecture form. At the same time the initiative of people make the intelligent response to these objective conditions, this is exactly the source of regional technology. Located in the southwest of China, Sichuan Basin has complicate geographical conditions, unique climate characteristics, great culture and diligent people. Tempered through long-term history, the traditional folk house contain the abundant construction experience and shining spirit with natural coordination, and still have lasting value even today.This thesis try to analyze the form of traditional folk houses through technological aspect. It has surveyed a large number of representative traditional folk houses in the basin area. Through the study of the apparent- form outside and inside latent technological spirit, it summarizes and sets up the whole regional technological idea, and propose the appropriate development principle that combines regional technology of this area.The first part of the thesis has functioned as the brief explanation to the research background and research range and meaning, second part has reviewed the regional characteristics and formed factors of the traditional folk houses in Sichuan Basin, third and four parts research the suitable space measures and building technology complying with the nature. It summarizes the pattern language and regional spirit of traditional folk houses in the fifth part. It combines actual cases how to inherit and develop the regional design language of technology in modem architectural design.Research of this thesis is based on the tradition, face to the contemporary conditions, and practically study the architectural form and regional technology. It aimsat helping actual application of regional architecture, from which the inspiration be obtained to the modern regional architectural design.
