After years of development, whether in architecture or people,the traditional villages inwest Beijing changed greatly, However,the space in the village is relatively more stable,whichis loose and complex.By rational combing the traditional village space,we hope to find a wayto conduct a comprehensive cognition to the ancient village.This paper consists of three parts. Chapter One, which constitutes the first part,introduces layout of western Beijing ancient villages, thus elaborating on the purpose andsignificance of the research and further setting the languageā€“based methodology on12targetvillages. The second chapter as the second part, introduces concept of pattern language andexpression of the pattern its own. Besides, space system in this paper can be categorized intothe public space, yard space and the village space on basis of pattern language from macro tomicro perspective. The third part is the core component including Chapter Three, ChapterFour and Chapter Five. In terms of the types, features and prominent composing elements ofthe above three space systems, these chapters summarize their space pattern languagesrespectively and illustrate their correlations and features by graphs and diagrams.By generalizing the space pattern language at different levels, the conclusion part willconclude the pattern languages appearing in every space system, namely its intensity. All inall, the paper attempts at a brief introduction on the general space utilizing situation of westBeijing ancient villages.
