Based on the analysis of the belt conveyor controllable transmission systems both home and abroad, this paper puts forward a new type of hydro-viscous controllable transmission system. The system is a comprehensive device of mechanics, electronics and hydraulics. It has properties as follows: controllable starting, overload protection, power equilibrium, empty load starting, low speed for belt testing, etc.We analyse the basal principle and strongpoints of the hydro-viscous transmission; then we analyse the work principle and the work process of the system systematically; we introduce the dynamic speciality of the belt conveyor, analyse the variety of the dynamic load, the calculation of the transmission speed of the elasticity wave, the surge of the belt. We analyse the calculation of the equivalent moment of inertia of the conveyor, found the simplified calculation model; compare the starting performance under several acceleration curve and their effects on the dynamic load severally.We study the viscous shear principle and on this base the viscous shear model of the new type system is built, then study the factors that affect the transfer capability. Then we study the lubrication principle of oil film, and deduce the calculation formulae of the forces received by the oil film; we anylyse the effect on the transfer capability by the shape , the width, the depth of the oil groove; we found the roughness model of the friction plate and discuss its effect on transfer capability; we study the variational rule of the oil temperature and its effect on the transfer capability.According to the conjoint process and the requirement on the transfer capability, we choose the material of the friction plate and design its structure; then we design the mechanism. At last according to the work requirement, we design the fluid system included the control loop and the cooling lubrication loop; then we choose the type of the fluid component based on the calculation result.
