Higher demands have been placed on braking system due to the rapid development of urban railway transportation in China. Thus it is very significant to proceed computer assistant designing (CAD) and simulated calculation on the basis of the operation features of braking system.Air & electric combined braking mode that relies mainly on electric braking and complementally on air braking is widely used in China urban railway transportation. The CAD to the braking system and simulated calculation to its operation features are based on the modeling of electromotor & simulated program designing for train braking.Following the analyses on operating features of DC & AC electro motors, the article describes how to utilize MATLAB/SIMULINK on modeling three-phase asynchronous motor based on general model under the electricity generating condition. The article takes Zhen Zhou Line No.l as an example to describe the designing principles & procedure of train braking simulator developed with Visual Basic 6.0. The braking simulator simulates the train running process and proceeds real time tracking on preset running routes according to the requirements for trains. Speed & time curves are also created synchronously & visually for analyzing the result.Then the asynchronous motor model & braking simulator are coupled by Active X to show the real-time changes of speed, braking force & brake handle position. It also shows the shifts between electric braking mode and air-electric combined braking mode. In addition, from the study of motor model we can get the variable statuses of voltage, current and magnetic torque with the time change.Finally a CAD program and a simulator for train electric braking system, which are developed with VB, Matlab/Simulink will be submitted. They can be used in the train electric braking system designing and direct simulating of the running result. They can also help farther utilizing electric baking characteristics,thus realize the wide utilization of electric braking in urban railway transportation and contributes to the localization of urban railway vehicles.
