Reactive power/ Voltage control plays a significant role in research of electric power systems. Based on a review of previous work, this thesis discussed the effects of orders of control actions to reactive power/voltage control, and presented an improved approach to reactive power/voltage coordinative control.Firstly, principals of reactive power/voltage control of regional electric power systems were presented. Based on the analysis of characteristics of reactive power/voltage control and reactive power sources reactive power compensators and voltage control equipment, general considerations in reactive power/voltage control were concluded.Then, reactive power/voltage coordinative control which has attracted lots of interests was introduced. Coordinative control strategies under normal or emergency states were investigated. Non-linear Optimal Power Flow (OPF) algorithm was used for Reactive power optimization calculation; an approach which adopts condition-relax methods was used to improve the convergence. The effects of control action orders were also considered, and an improved optimal control strategy was proposed. This approach used active power loss control effectiveness and voltage control effectiveness to determine the order of control actions, under normal and emergency states, respectively. Thus avoided oscillations arose from control equipment acting at the same moment.Finally, IEEE14-bus, IEEE30-bus systems and a real regional power system were used to test the proposed approach. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
