The Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is a vehicle whose power is offered by two or more than two kinds of energy. It has advantages of both pure electric vehicle car and traditional internal-combustion engine vehicle. It not only has characters of high efficiency and performance of the low emission of the pure electric vehicle, but also has characters of long run-distance of traditional internal-combustion engine vehicle and the performance of the fast fuel supplementing. HEV has the most potential of industrialization and marketization among clean energy vehicles. As one of the important functional modules in HEV system, Electro-controlled Clutch's working quality determines whole performance of the system and directly influences the comfortableness and security. Therefore the research and development of the Electro-controlled Clutch has important meanings.Aiming at the current situation of the development of the domestic and international automatic clutch technology, and on the basis of the analysis about the clutch engagement process and engagement quality that vehicle starts, this paper chooses the suitable control parameter, and finishes the designing of controller hardware of the Electro-controlled Clutch and driver circuit. Depending on what mentioned above, to realize research of the control strategy and estabhshment of the control software. Finally, the paper verifies feasibility of the Electro-controlled Clutch through experiments so as to complete the study and development process of Electro-controlled Clutch's controlling system.Firstly, through analyzing the clutch engagement process deeply, Evaluation indexes of engagement quality are proposed. The paper chooses ne (engine rotational speed), nc (clutchoutput shaft rotational speed) and rate of change of nc as control parameters. Secondly, the paper has selected Philips P87591 as CPU, sensors and executive component and installed them. Based on them, the controller hardware has been developed. The controller hardware has been realized the switch of power, signal and data generating, collection, analysis, disposal, display and memorizer expanding, and proportion electro-magnet drive circuit, etc. Thirdly, based on the controller, the paper has edited control strategy design and program of every function module (including signal gathering and disposal module, clutch movement logic module, clutch separating module, clutch engagement module and show module). Among them, the clutch engagement module is realized by adopting PE) algorithm. Finally, the developed Electro-controlled Clutch controller is applied in bench test for verifying the engagement result and adjusting the parameter constantly. The result of the test indicates that the engagement process is steady, small concussion, fast response speed, high work steadily. The controller is adequate for the purpose sufficiently.Electro-controlled Clutch controller research and development is succeed. It has proved that without changing clutch structure of original vehicle, the Electro-controlled Clutch is feasible. Meanwhile, as two important innovations of this paper, the choosing of control parameter and exertion of the proportion electro-magnet has offered a new research direction for automatic control to the clutch, and has important academic meaning and using value.
