Regarding the time-variable and non-linear characteristics of hydraulic turbine governing system, this article proposes a fuzzy adaptive PID control strategy. The PID parameters of hydraulic turbine governor are tuned on-line using a fuzzy inference system based on error and its derivative. The key of this control strategy is the implementation of fuzzy inference system. Design of fuzzy inference system, especially fuzzy rule base, was mainly dependent upon the method of trial and error, which is very time-consuming. So this article proposes a new automatic rule generation method using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. In the following simulation, this new control strategy is applied to the hydraulic turbine governor subject to small frequency disturbance at different work points. The superior performance and robustness of this control strategy in comparison to the conventional fixed parameter PID controller proves its efficacy.In addition, this article analyzes the feasibility and way of applying the fuzzy adaptive PID control strategy on PCC platform.
