The analysis of slope stability is always a problem which geotechnical workers think much of, because a steady slope in the nature condition may be unstable for the sake of human remodeling. The paper makes a retrospect, including the history of analysis of slope stability and research actuality both here and abroad. It summarizes extensive used limiting equilibrium theory and finite element method (FEM) at present, describes and compares several methods of limiting equilibrium theory, and analyses several implementation methods of FEM which are applied for the analysis of slope stability on the basis of describing base principles of FEM and FEM software called ANSYS. Then it evaluates stability combined with a project item. This paper describes briefly regional geological conditions of JinAnQiao hydropower station, labors for geological conditions and hydrographic geological conditions in the research region and describes special engineering geological conditions in allusion to talus slide in detail. It illuminates respectively tuff interlayers, rock mass of side slope and their structure characteristics, formation conditions of the slope, potential destabilization types of the slope, Influence factors of slope stability and calculation loads of stability analysis. In this paper, statistic analyses are made considering atomization impacting slope stability. It evaluates stability of three talus slides on the left embankment on the basis of their engineering geological conditions and analyses potential destabilization forms of talus slides. The cohesive strength of talus slides plays an important role in slope stability, so the article inverse calculates it and confirms rational parameter of cohesive strength of talus slides. Because of dissimilar location of three talus slides, it uses dissimilar methods to calculate diversified work conditions. Considering adverse effect of rainfall on slope's stability, it analyses the change of safe coefficient after cohesive strength of talus slides reducing under the effect of pore water pressure. It respectively uses limiting equilibrium theory and FEM to calculate stability of talus slides, analyses stress and displacements, calculates safe coefficient of talus slides under the worst work condition and estimates the stability of talus slides. By qualitative analyses and calculations, in this article, some problems are summarized, such as analyses of talus slides stability should pay attention to and does research for the calculation results and differences between limiting equilibrium theory and FEM which are used to calculate slope stability.
