Study On The Renewal Building In The Historic Drum-Tower District Of Xi'an

The drum-tower historical district of Xi'an is one of the only two traditional Resident-District in the old districts, where consists of many traditional courtyards which built in Qing dynasty, which are under well protection, and most residents live here for several generations. However, since reform and opening-up, with the increasing income and population, and the demands for the modem life, in order to improve the living environment and living quality, most residents have carried on the construction activity of spontaneity to the house in one's own property right in this district. Many well protected courtyard architectures are replacing by lots of renewal houses which are rough and with red roof. But during the renewal of the historical district, lacking of the participation of the professional personage of certain policies and regulations, the building after renewal cant fit for the demands of modem lives, at the same time, it can't be assort with protection and developing of the historical district. The existence of the historical district faces the severe challenge.This paper makes the renewal buildings and households which inhabiting in drum-tower historical district as research objects. It is started with the purposes that improve the living quality, and correspond with the protection and development of historical district. Then through reviewing historical development process of drum-tower district, excavate the special region characteristic of district and inhabitation culture. Though investigate the current situation of the renewal building in the district; then analyze and summarize the questions which existing in the renewal of the district; at last we can put forward renewal principle, goal, renewal ways and methods, and proposes which can be implemented. On the bases of protect and renewal theories and practice in the contemporary domestic and international, aiming at the current situation of the drum-tower district, give the demonstration design.The problems existing in the renewal buildings in Drum-tower district are gradually recognized by the local people. Only to lead residents to set up combination of protection and renewal concept in the mind, and adopt the feasible methods to solve the living environment quality problems which closelyrelating with resident's profits, can we really renew vitality of the district, and finally realize the sustainable development of the historical district...
