Three-dimensional (3D) terrain virtual scene is the keystone for the combination of Virtual Reality (VR) and geographical information in recent years. Virtual Reality technology based on VRML(virtual reality modeling language) can achieve Real-time rending and interacting of established model and virtual scene. So it constructs rich and colorful model and scene. With the development of computer science and computer graphics, more and more VR technologies are required in the hydraulic engineering.3D visualization technology has gradually become the main means and foreland for the port, seacoast, sea-route, and waterway to research and devise riverbed evolvement and silt sediment, and has been an effective way to recur 3D info and analyze synthetically. Visualization and VRML bring on actual impact and personally on the scene.Because the subject is based on VRML, various 3D terrain modeling methods should be analyzed. In allusion to the subject, even gridding modeling is chosen to construct 3D model. In view of the feature of VRML, terrain model is built of effective arithmetic in Visual C++. At the same time, with the parameter of devised waterway, virtual channel is established. By computing and judging the region of channel, devising the channel, and clarifying surface of the terrain, the subject achieves real-time preview of terrain, channel and excavating purpose. Combining VRML with Java and javascript to construct virtual scene, Real-time navigation and interaction can realize in virtual scene. User Interface in Visual Basic is programmed to set up model and browse virtual scene easily and quickly.The reappearance of channel terrain can not only provide valuable reference to choose the channel line and lay the corresponding facilities more directly perceivable, but also improve engineer's design quality and efficiency. It also helps to accelerate transition from two dimensions to three dimensions. In result, great social benefit and economic benefit gained. Therefore, the subject is valuable in engineer application.
