Floors take up as much as 20%~30% of the cost of a building; in a high-rise reinforced concrete building, their deadweight accounts for 50%~60% of the overall deadweight. Therefore it is important to lower the cost and deadweight of the floors. Moreover, the design of the floor influences the sound and heat insulation and aesthetic effect; it plays an important role in safeguarding the load bearing, rigidity and duration and in promoting shock and wind resistance. Thus a correct and reasonable design of floor is not only necessary but also important, for it can bring social and economic benefit.First, the present paper briefs the features, conditions of application and commonly used algorithms of each type of floor structure system (one-way slab floor, two-way slab floor, cross beam floor, rib floor in plastic form, flat slab floor, one-way prestressed concrete slab floor, two-way prestressed concrete slab floor, prestressed concrete cross beam floor, prestressed concrete rib floor in plastic form and prestressed concrete flat slab floor). Then it works out the material volume, cost, height of structure, flexibility and crack of each type of floor structure system respectively. However cost is not the only yardstick in the evaluation of different floor structure systems. Instead, the composite index of functions, construction management etc. should be taken into consideration in deciding the floor structure system so as to meet the demand of the market economy. In the latter part, this paper makes an analysis and comparison among the composite indexes of floor structure systems of different spans with regard to system of structure, architectural mechanics, functions, utilize rate of interspace, architectural aesthetics, construction management etc. and provides plans for optimization. Finally, this paper tests the feasibility of these plans by using PM,PRCE and SATWE to analyze data collected from a practical construction work.
