Ash dams are important structures of thermal power plant. With the development of national economy, the power plant is larger and larger, requesting the capacity of storehouse of ash field to increase, and the ash dam's height increases accordingly too. The physics mechanics characteristic of powder ash determines that the security of the dam is closely related with the seepage zone of ash field of the power plant. It will cause inestimable loss that the problem of seepage flow cannot be dealt with well. The inquisitional statistical data indicates a lot of accidents of destruction of ash dam all relate to seepage flow. The reasons why the seepage destruction takes place are all caused by hydraulic gradient. Therefor, the seepage field of the ash field must be analyzed. Meanwhile, phreatic line derived from seepage analysis offers basic materials for the fact that the stability of the ash dam will be analyzed. The flow of water in the hole medium is called seepage flow. Main task of seepage analysis is to give such basic physical quantities of seepage field as hydraulic head, distribute of seepage velocity, seepage discharge and so on, and by means of calculating relevantly in view of the above, the project's security and economic benefits can be proposed appraisingly and the rational control measures will be chosen. At present, practical methods to the solution are finite element method and hydraulic-electrical analog method.ANSYS software is a good-sized all-purpose software for finite element analysis, which is developed by ANSYS software company in U.S.A., having powerful solution and preprocessor and postprocessor. It can carry on a large number of finite elements analysis as follows, thermal, electrical, magnetic, fluid, structural and otherwise finite element analysis, and can carry on coupled analysis of several physical fields. Because seepage field has an analogy to temperature field, some seepage analyses can be calculated by utilizing its temperature field analysis function.Firstly the thesis makes preliminary researches on seepage analysis with ANSYS, and then analyses the seepage field of Jilin Province Erdaojiang thermal power plant with FEM. The analysis results, of which its whole stability has been analyzed on the basis, indicate the results are rational and reliable.
