The unsafe reservoir, a serious threat to people’s lives and property, restrictsreservoir to play efficiency. After a long run, the dam material will be reached or evenexceeded its service life. In order to ensure the long-term safety of reservoirs, unsafedams must be reinforcedThe analysis of a dam stress state, security and stability is an important part ofthe identification of the dam safety. In this paper, as the research object, koushangmasonry gravity dam will be analyzed and studied, overall grasp of reservoiroperation status,koushang masonry dam safety is checked. According to the mainexisting issues, the seepage consolidation program is determined. Three-dimensionalmathematical model will be established to calculate stress, displacements and analyzethe stability. The research results provide a theoretical basis and practical method forstability analysis of the masonry dam. Theories and methods used in this paper havethe reference significance and popularization value for similar projects.The main contents are as follows:(1) based on the most unfavorable design storm and design-time rainfall, designflood is derived by use of the unit line; the discharge capacity of the spillway tunneland the overflow weir spillway capacity are calculated; the relationship of inflowflood and dam site is analyzed and studied and the flood control capacity is checkedtoo. Typical calculation sections are chosen to calculate the stability against slidingand the edge stress. The operating conditions are analyzed before reinforcement andunstable factors are determined.(2) the effect of the1974impermeable grouting is analyzed; the current damfoundation grout curtain necessity and grout ability are analyzed and the feasibility ofthe scheme is demonstrated; two sets of seepage consolidation programs is formulated,and the final scheme is determined.(3) by use of the large-pass finite element software ANSYS, the reinforced damfinite element model is established. The stress distribution is analyzed and calculatedunder a variety of operating conditions. Displacement distribution regularities andstability against sliding are considered at the check flood level.(4) the benefits of the reinforced masonry dam are analyzed when the dam is in the stable state.
