With the development of Information Technology, computer application software has developed from desktop software architecture to CS (Client / Server) software architecture, then to BS (Browser / Server) software architecture. BS architecture also has developed from simple BS architecture to distributed computation system based on COM, then to distributed computation system based on Web Service. In a word, the development of computer technology is surprising and beyond imagination. In this paper, we find out the shortcomings and flaws of WebGIS technology, and put forword Web Service technology as a new, cross-platform technology. We also research the running mechnism and priciple of Web Service technology, and the new GIS Web Service technology which combines WebGIS technology and Web Service technology. We use Java as our programming language plus Tomcat Server and Axis components, both of which are published by Apache Open Source Organization, to develop a Train Query Web Service which could help and faciliate other platforms and applications. In the process of development, we study how to configure, develop, publish and apply the Web Service interfaces. We also make use of this Train Query Web Service in our GIS program. This program is developedby Java and Java MO, and could provide users a dynamic, visual train number query function. The Train GIS Query System can provide tourists a convenient, fast and efficent way to query train number and time. The network solution of this system could provide more users with this service and could accept more suggestions from different users no matter where they are. So, we can maintain and update our system as soon as possible. The research production of my work has put forward a new way in how to use Web Service and GIS Web Service in more relevant fields.
