It has been demonstrated in abroad that VE program input to implementation process of construction projects would result in great benefit because of their vast sum of cost and long time of operation. Based on the author's experience and specialty, this paper gives systematic studies on structural design issues using VE techniques.The optimization of structural design in VE method was given through the studies on VE theory and the analyses of how to improve the project value. Proper works was down in sequence. In function design stage nonlinear plan method was applied. In preliminary designation to get the best plan in value factors of the foundations and up-constructions composite evaluate way in vogue was used. In formal designation the function analyses on sub-system, such as foundations, anti-push members and stories of tall building, in nonlinear plan was down and the optimized way was found base on the models given in this paper. In addition, the dissertation also put forward a method of optimization in VE theory with special loads (wind, earthquake).At the end of the paper inappropriate elements in design filed in china was debated. Advices were given for the importance and necessary of the uses of VE in practice.
