The longitudinal tear accident of transportation belt happens occasionally in transportation coal system of the power plants, once the tear accident happened, the transportation belt which values hundreds of thousands even millions $ will destroy within several minutes, and causes enormous economic loss. This paper summarizes the defense tearing device on the basis of study at home and abroad, starts from the actual need of transportation coal scene in the power plant, and gives up domestic researcher's simplify and mechanized study theory, puts forward a kind of construction thought which is intelligent and non-contact., discusses the design way, structure characteristic, software, hardware and the application of the system. In order to realize online monitoring to the width of the transportation belt, we design the ultrasonic sensor system for measuring the distance of belt independently; at last sum up the characteristic of the system and its application prospect. Proved by experiment, this defense tearing device can prevent from longitudinal tear of transportation belt effectively, While improves the operation of the transportation system, have improved the economic benefit of the power plants greatly. Therefore the defense tearing device is worth generalizing and applying in power plants.
