When a vehicle runs, road can apply all kinds of forces and torques to the tires of the vehicle. All these forces and Torques are transferred to the body of the vehicle by the suspension system. The vehicle suspension system are mainly consisted of spring components ,damper components and orientation machine. The three parts respectively performs the functions of cushion ,damping and orientation, and cooperate each other to finish the task that transfer all kinds of forces and torques from tires to vehicle body. As this kind of equipment the transferring characteristics of the suspension system is the most important and direct factors that influence the vehicle ride performance and handling performance. For better handling and ride performances the vehicle suspension design faces two important tasks: one is how to design components of the suspension system, another is with what evaluation parameter and testing way to evaluate the suspension characteristics. Comparing to the former the latter is more important, for without the reasonable appraisal way and parameters the good and bad will be meaningless, and unreasonable evaluation way and parameters will lead suspension design to a wrong way. In terms of vehicle ride and handling performance their evaluation methods have been considerably perfect. While in terms of the suspension system which directly influence the vehicle ride and handling performance the evaluation method and parameters are still unsatisfactory. This article is to discuss this problem. Combining with a military vehicle independent suspension design, the article elaborates on the methods and parameters to evaluate the characteristics of automotive independent suspension. Automotive suspension research includes two areas. One is suspension system dynamics which mainly study the spring and damper characteristics; another is suspension system kinematics which mainly studies the orientation machine characteristics. When considering the influences of the elasticity joint components the suspension system kinematics is called suspension system kinematics and elasticity kinematics. This article is specially to study the evaluation parameters and testing method for the kinematics and elasticity kinematics characteristics of vehicle independent suspension system.
