With the development of science, the quantity and the quality have gradually become the first targets of strip production. Steel strip thickness accuracy is one of the two quality performances of the thickness and shape, and gauge control is one of the two key technologies in the rolling field. So it is important to research deeply into automatic gauge control system (AGC) of rolling mill and to apply modem control theory to it.This thesis introduces detailedly about the new techniques, the new specialties, the general constitution of the cold sheet mill, the location and function of transducers, and the parameters of main technology based on the No. 1 tandem cold mill of Cold Strip Works of Angang New Steel Co Ltd. The composition of the three levels computer control systems and the functions of the basic automation and process automation are also introduced detailedly.Based on the curve of mill elastic deformation and the curve of strip plastic deformation, the influence of some factors on the strip exit gauge is analyzed. On the analysis of the hydraulic AGC system and operation mechanism in a strip mill, and the mathematical model of electric-hydraulic position control system is built according to the equation of loading pressure-flux in servo valve, the equation of loading flux in hydraulic cylinder and the equation of force equilibrium in hydraulic cylinder.According to the mathematical model of electric-hydraulic position control system, the PID controller is applied, and steady control effect has been achieved in hydraulic AGC system. Because of the property of fast response, high control precision and high anti-interference of the hydraulic AGC system, the single neuron adaptive PID controller is adopted, which is applied in the AGC control system. The simulation results present the good dynamic characteristic of the control method. This method has robustness and fast response ability and steady state precision.
