My work is a part of the project Study of Electrical Property and Testing Methods of Smart Concrete for Traffic Monitoring System, supported by the National Natural Science Foundation. Vehicle-overspeed is the main course of most traffic accidents. But the traditional monitoring method cannot meet the demands of large-scale traffic monitoring, for the high prices of required survey instruments, such as radar equipments. Based on the smart property of CFRC, this paper is presenting an originally new method to monitor vehicle-speed in order to cut down the cost and facilitate the monitoring action. Consequently it becomes easier for supervisors to acquaint themselves with the real traffic condition and to make right decisions which can decrease the rate of traffic accidents and to push the economic development harmoniously.This paper involves many subjects such as science of material, interface chemistry, thermodynamics, electrotechnics and signal processing. Firstly, experiences of CFRM and CFRC are carried out to improve the preparation technics and the batch formula. Secondly, factors effect the dispersion of carbon fiber are studied and the dispersion mechanics is investigated. Finally, the working principle of Traffic Vehicle-speed Monitoring System is presented. It is proved feasible and efficient after simulation tests. Furthermore, software package matching the system is being programmed.Obviously, the Traffic Vehicle-speed Monitoring System based on CFRC is innovative. CFRC can be used not only as structural material to prolong the road life but also as functional material, for its smart property, to monitor vehicle-speed, vehicle-weight, traffic flux and damage of roads in this system. The system is of low cost but multifunctional greatly. Therefore it is promising for application. On the other hand, this paper can push the CFRC's popularization ahead for the research promotes the practicability of CFRC. And the research method is academically valuable.
