Since china's reform and opening to the world, the economy maintained durative and high growth, bringing better living conditions to the masses. As to transportation, slowly and single modes are transiting into high-efficiency and multiple modes. During this process, cars are playing a more and more important role and the trend is inevitable. Just as a coin has two sides, besides bringing much convenience to our daily life, car also imposes high pressure to environment, living space and limited energy. Take the urban residential districts as an example, many problems appeared as below: design schemes still don't let out enough parking spaces, environmental factors are often ignored when choosing parking mode, many parking appliances is not fully utilized, manage mode lag far behind the request, and etc. In view of this situation, we think it is of urgency and great significance for us to study how to solve parking problems in urban residential districts, and what is "mediate parking"from the view of the whole society. Composed of six chapters, this dissertation's main idea concludes: After clarifying the reason of the study and its aim and significance, the first chapter makes a logical preparation for the study by limiting its scope, defining the important concepts, and explaining the research methods and use of basic materials. At the same time, this chapter shows us relevant practices and theories of parking in urban residential districts from home and aboard, also it analyses existing parking modes and some regulations and criteria. All these analyses set a concrete foundation for the research and study in later chapters. By the introduction of other people's forecast, using motorization process of Japan and Korea for reference, analyzing the actuality of our country, the author makes forecast of ultimate personal car ownership in city on its own. The third chapter aims to find how many cars will be needed to set in urban residential districts in future. In this study, site, the type and orientation of residential district will be considerate and it will provide us with a new point of view to solve the problem. The fourth chapter discusses the problem of where to park. By the analysis and comparison of different parking modes, this chapter shows us advantages, disadvantages and applicable range of them. The fifth chapter discusses the problem of how to park. Before choosing the most feasible parking mode, we need to take volume, environmental influence, the kind of car and relevant regulations into consideration. After summarizing the data and inferences made in chapters 2,3,4and 5,the sixth chapter reflects on some manage modes and factors, and put forward comments and suggestions for parking mode in future urban residential districts.
