The Research On Development Of Residential Planning In Guangzhou, 1949～1978

At the begginning of new china, everything was in state of destroy to be renovated.In order to develop as soon as possible, china entered the planned economy period, considering the actual situation and political ideology. Through macro-control of the central focus on the limited resource, china indeed made remarkable achievements with measured strokes in the socialist modernization process.The residential districts carry People's daily life, whose construction gained achievements showing their own particularity, so did that in Guangzhou.The residential districts in Guangzhou during 1949 and 1978 are studied in this dissertation. In the context of policies, theories, geography and traditional habits factors, social and economic status, etc, the residential districts in Guangzhou are primary studied on basis of their planning and design.This dissertation will be divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction including the background, purpose, meaning and methods of research.The second part which is the main study is composed of four chapters. Considering the important features on the fact that different residential districts serve different people, the residential districts are divided into four categories such as for the works, for the livers living on boats, for the intellectuals, for the overseas. The characters of the different residential districts will be summarized by analysis on their construction, planning and design, then with typical cases.The third part is on basis of the second part. The general characteristics and its influence of the construction of settlements during 1949 and 1978 will be studied to provide a reference for the current rebuilding and construction.
