Product innovation is the inherent motivity of corporation that can survive and develop. The new product competition based on knowledge is the focus of the manufacturing in 21st century. Product innovation needs more multi-subject knowledge, more complex technology support and more perfect theory of innovation. As the result, creative design based on knowledge becomes the hotspot of research. Traditional CAD software cannot deal with the non-structure problem effectively in the process of product design, then computer aided-innovation (CAI) software emerges as the times require.Knowledge is the important element of product creative design. Scientific effect is one of technological knowledge, is the important source in the process of product design. Conceiving a new product working theory is the major task of creative design. Scientific effect plays an important role in product design. Each scientific effect may correspond to a solution of design problem. To research on creative design, scientific effects base is the indispensable part.The main contents and achievements are articulated as follows:(1) Product creative designThe concept and type of innovation and the product creative driving model have been expatiated. The design process in a general way has been divided into four parts: requirement analysis, conceptual design, particular design and production plan. Conceptual design is the most important phase among the four parts. The avail of knowledge in product creative design has been analyzed. The framework ofcomputer-aided innovation is put forward. Scientific effects base is the sub-module of the framework.(2) Product conceptual designThe definition and characteristic of product conceptual design have been expatiated. The modeling of product conceptual design process is researched. Conceptual design begins with design requirement, and to abstract the primary function, analyze the function, find a way to fulfill the function, get the solution at the end. In the process, designer can bring forward different project, so find different solutions. Function-behavior-Structure (FBS) framework has been analyzed, and function model, behavior model and structure model have been built.(3) Scientific effects base building theoryThe concept and denotation of function have been expatiated. The concept, source, classifying method and denotation of effect have been analyzed. The relationship of function, effect and solution has been analyzed. Based on FBS framework, Function- Effect (FE) model has been put forward. And the model can realize the mapping from function to effect. FE model is the foundation to build the scientific effects base.(4) Scientific effects base fulfillingThe framework of scientific effects base has been put forward, and the function layer has been discussed emphatically. The tool to develop the system has been analyzed, so the method of Java and XML has been adopted. The secondary tool has been also analyzed. The correlative knowledge of JavaBeans, JMF, Flash MX and Cult3D has been expatiated concisely. The method to realize creative design using scientific effects base has been researched with the example.
