The development of manufacturing information impels many corporations establishing corresponding Computer Aided Design & Computer Aided Manufacture software condition, and evident effect is achieved by applying the CAD & CAM software to design, analyze, process, simulate and manufacture the product. Because the developing platforms are more and more, the problems of resource sharing between different platforms and of system integration become more and more prominent. So, it is very important to fast develop applied CAD systems with making use of both the utility system formerly developed and the platforms familiar to developers.According to analysis datum of modern CAD and applying developing technology of . NET platform, database technology and FEA technology, the developing process, implementing methods and key technology of multi-platform CAD technology in which VB. NET is the main tools are introduced in detail by taking example for the Straight Gear and Angle Gear CAD System. Gear blank design, intensity check, tolerance inquiry, design reports edit and print and automatic drafting can be realized in this system. And the system can be easy to expand. The primary achievement and feature of this paper in theory and practice is as follows:(1) For the current CAD technology and the development tools, the possibility of developing CAD systems based on . NET platform has been put forward and the basic function drawing modules are developed by VB.NET language in AutoCAD.(2) Aiming at the feature of the current software development technology, the application of the object-oriented technology, COM and database technology to CAD development has been discussed. Besides, the development and application of DAO, ADO, ADO.NET and data binding have been thoroughly researched in this paper.(3) The principle of finite element analysis and the methods of finite element mesh dividing have been introduced. Making use of finite element analysis and APDLlanguage, parameterized design meshing system of involute gear has been designed. In addition, the method for calculation of teeth profile of involute curve gear has been discussed.(4) According to theoretical analysis of the Straight Gear and Angle Gear, the total design project and the basic structures of CAD system have been put forward. During the process of program design, the whole program structure is clear and is easy to enrich for the Object-Oriented programming ideas, the modulari -zation and parameterized design technology.(5) In order to strengthen the function of the CAD system, the advanced development technology of finite element meshing in Ansys and of three-dimensional modeling in AutoCAD with VB. NET have been researched. Making use of modularization technology, the finite element meshing module and the simulation of gear machining module have been integrated in the CAD system.The developing technology of CAD is deeply researched and a few of reasonable methods are brought forward in this paper which are very useful in development of CAD software. The software is used time and again by different parameters, under the above foundation, the system has a friendly interface, simply operation way, powerful function and runs safely, realizes parametric design and parametric drawing form primal data to draw. So it has the practical value in the production.
