Over the years since the open policy and reform has been carried out in our nation, the people's living condition is improved greatly. At the same time, as the largest developing country in the world, the problems, such as traffic jam, increasing accidents, environment pollution, in China become more serious along with the fast development of economy, city and automobile industry. The city roads and intersections have not been broad enough and fall into the obstacles of the city and economic development. Therefore, traditional fixed time and distributed time control system cannot adapt to the frequent change of traffic situations. The research of ITS is becoming especially important in order to enhance the efficiency of traffic and ensure the stable development of economy.Fuzzy controller doesn't need a precision model of objects, and it applies to a nonlinear, real time and lag system. It can make some effectswhich non-intelligent methods can't do. But other controllers also have advantage in some aspects. For example, fixed time controller has simple rules and has great efficacy when vehicle flux is saturated, and so on. To sum up, it will make a better result if some control methods are put together.This thesis mainly focuses on the fuzzy control system analysis and design for a signal intersection and the research achievement is following:1. It summarizes the background of intersection control in Intelligent Transportation System and the study evolvement of intersection signal control based fuzzy logic. Intersection signal control is classfied by time distribution of intersection and each design of subclasses are expatiated.2. It discusses the structure of a four-phase fuzzy controller which take primary motorcade and extraessential motorcade into consideration. It introduces a compound control method using vehicle flux as reference. The system can choose tow-phase fuzzy control, four-phase fuzzy control or time control independently according to vehicle flux of a moment. It expatiates design and program of the system.3. Combined to my emluator, some technical tough problems have been discussed in the procedure of modeling.At last, the summary is made and the necessary further research has been pointed out intersections lights control based on fuzzy logical.
