The traffic problem of urban city is one of the most important issues of modern city problems. With the development of computer, communications and automation technology in the traffic application, in recent years, people continue to apply theories and technologies of several fields to the intelligent transport systems, which improve the development of urban traffic control systems.This paper first introduces the historical development of urban traffic control, and then discusses and analysis the recent status in out country and abroad.This study based on the results of the intelligent traffic signal controller platform in the laboratory and does some further research on the signal system. I study the software and hardware of the detection system. Considered that the signal machine that we already have can only do off-line works, this paper studies the communication between the upper control software and the traffic signal controller, show a control protocol and design the software.The traffic signal controller has a variety of operating modes. In these modes we focus on the inductive control of single intersection. After analysis the classic inductive control, we propose a inductive control algorithm of dynamic phase sequence. An adaptive control algorithm based on fuzzy control also is studied preliminarily.In the end, summary the full text and point out the future study on the urban traffic control and the intelligent signal machine.
