The back analysis is a method which is often used in the geotechnical engineering. A lot of problems exist in practical engineering when we use the traditional method to perform the back analysis. After the computational intelligence was introduced to the back analysis, the integration of the geotechnical-engineering back analysis and the computational intelligence was achieved. At the same time the application of back analysis reached a new height. Genetic algorithms is a usual method of the computational intelligence. A lot of domestic and foreign exerperts make use of it to cany on the back analysis in the geotechnical engineering. The paper use the modified genetic algorithms to process the back analysis in order to calculate the physical parameters of the ground work soil layer, which is based on the electric power plant's sedimentation observation. The paper is constituted by six chapters . The first is the introduction. The second is the synopsis about the theory of genetic algorithms. The third mainly expounds the theory of the modified genetic algorithms and the procedure . In this chapter, the theory of the modified genetic algorithms and the procedure including design philosophy and the functions of both main program and subroutines. The forth section accounts for the sedimentation observation of electric power plant which is formed by the content and theory of the sedimentation observation, the gathering process of sedimentation observation basic data. The fifths tests the rationality and the applicability of the procedure through the concrete example .The sixth is the conclusion and the prospect.
