The fault causes of large turbine generator rotor inter turn short circuit has been analyzed deeply, and the shortage of the traditional methods and the significance of researching the new diagnoses method are pointed. The model of the rotor inter turn short-circuit on considering the saturation condition is founded. The relationship between the exciting current and generator reactive power loss and between the fault serious level and the exciting current are found. An effective method by means of the relative vary ratio of the exciting current before and after fault in the rotor side to identify the inter turn short circuit fault is proposed. The corresponding relationship between the fault serious levels of rotor winding inter turn short circuit and the effective magnetic field loss is established. An effective method by means of the imbalance electrical parameter in stator side to diagnose the rotor inter turn short circuit fault is put forward. By means of the generator rotor inter turn short circuit experiment of the dynamic analog unit, the concerned theory above is verified concretely. The result coincides with the theory.
