In order to adapt development of advanced weapon, aeronautics and astronautics, astronomy, to satisfy the request for experiment equipment, to improve tracking accuracy, stability and flexibility of optical-electronic theodolite in optical-electronic measurement system of shooting range, the necessity and feasibility to develop an advanced communication system inside optical-electronic theodolite based on CAN bus has been discussed, on the basis of analyzing and comparing the speciality of various Field bus. Outspreading from this, the structures, functions and methods accomplished of each part of system that includes hardware and software of CAN adapter and intelligent port controller have been described. Proved by practice, this system has realized that instrument communication is digitalized entirely and data transfer at high real time, with stronger practicality and validity. So, it has very vast application prospect.
