With the rapid development of our country's automobile industry in recent years, automobile has entered into families and been widely used in many fields of national economic constructions and social lives. With the improving requirements of the performance of the automobile and the emission regulations, it's a very important and pressing task to develop engine transient state operation test-bed to achieve higher performance of output power, exhaust emissions, oil-cost, noises, etc.At present, the engine transient test-bed has not been able to produce in domestic enterprises, but in other countries, the engine transient test-bed which has good integrated performance has already been developed and is becoming more and more mature in despite of its high price. So it is extremely important to develop a kind of low price engine transient test-bed.Based on the reasons above, supported by 'the Characteristics Analysis to Transient State Exhaust of Spark-Ignited Engines Based on the Measure of Symbolic Time Series' (National Nature Science Fund Project, No: 50176006), an exploratory research on the two key subsystems (throttle transient controller and transient dynamometer) of gasoline engine transient test-bed (GETT) was conduct. The results of this experiment indicated that the research conclusions can be used to conduct the design works of GETT.First, the research significances, current research situation, essential components and functions of GETT were summarized. Then, the concepts and the typical classifications of transient state operation of gasoline engine were discussed and the throttle transient controller based on motion control card and stepper motor was developed. At last, a primary study was discussed about a practicable control method which can improve the responding characteristics of the eddy current dynamometer (ECD). Some results are obtained in the process of the researches: (1) According to the gasoline engine practice running conditions, the major transient state operations are classified. (2) The experiment results and the applications show that the position, angular velocity and angular acceleration of the throttle's rotation control are in high precision, and the accelerator pedal operation can be simulated.
