As the shield tunneling method is more and more widely used recent years, the study on the stress of the segments is being more important. The key of the segment design is selection of the design method and determination of the design parameters. Along with the cognition of the restriction of the formation to the segments increases, the segment design with the characteristic of the interacting of formation and structure forms. There are four major segment designs recently, thus Routine Method, Modified Routine Method, Multi-Hinge Ring Method and Beam-Spring Model Method. And the appropriate design can reflect the stress of the segments more accurately. The factors that reflect the stress of the segments include geological parameters and structure parameters. Compared with the latter, the former has more uncertainty but less accuracy. This paper chooses the appropriate design method through theoretical analysis, and discusses the major factors on the stress of segments. And the related rule will guide the engineering practice. This paper bears such features hereinafter.(1) Theoretical analyzing the Routine Method, Modified Routine Method, Multi-Hinge Ring Method and Beam-Spring Model Method respectively, and choose the appropriate design method after comparison.(2) Analyzing and simplifying the segment structure, thus entitling the segment to be beam element, and simplifying the joint to be bending springs. ANSYS is adopted for numerical simulation of the selected segment structure.(3) Discussing the influence rules to the segment design of the major geological parameters and structure parameters. And fitting the curve of function of the related parameters and the value of the Nmax, Mmax, -Mmax, ymax, xmax.
