At the turning point of the century, in the social background of the knowledge economy and information age, the Chinese architecture on hospitals is undergoing the reform in the three areas such as economy systems, medical science systems, and technological revolution. The mode of medical operation are transforming from the biomedical mode to the combinational mode of biology, psychology and sociology. Under this condition, the function of hospitals are changing from simply curing to the combination of curing, healthcare, prophylaxis and recovering, and this transition implies the change of architecture design substantially. During modern hospital projects and managements, the design principle on basis of human needs has been a main idea. And people know the idea of humanistic environment too. At present, China will make the reformation of medical architecture for a prosperous and flourishing period of time. Some large-scale hospitals in big cities are undergoing refurbishment, expansion and even reconstruction. Hospital as a building type is one of the most complicated and changed. The components and knowledge involved in hospital design may go beyond what architects are capable of managing. There are usually a multitude of things in the architectural conceiving and design. Therefore, this article is based on systemic characteristic about the nursing unit, solute for human needing, make use of a way about A Pattern Language of Christopher Alexander, be tried to create a Humanistic Language for the design of nursing units in large-scale urban hospitals in China. According to analysis of some choosing elements one by one, I hope this language will be able to work as a reference and alleviate the repetition in the future architecture design of nursing units.
