Chain unloader is specially designed for foodstuff port. But because of all kinds of causes, technic of chain unloader in our country start very late and it is lagged compare to the other countries. Although our country has done many works to design it, there are still big gap between our country and foreign country. The chain unloader used in our port is indraughted from other countries. Based on the chain unloader designed by SANYO heavy industry recently, optimize the structure and simulate the process of chian unloader. Research is carried through from the following aspects:(1) Design of parameter optimization. During the design of vertical suction, it is troublesome to choose the parameters. If change one parameter, all others parameters have to calculate again to choose other parameters. It is impossible to choose the fittest parameter at first, so it is necessary to modify the parameter. It is always a repeated process. In order to enhance the efficiency, the design process are programed using VB. Now, if input a parameter, result will be demonstrated.(2) Analysis the strength of arm using finite element. The arm is the most complicated frame in the design. It is made up with joists. The arm endures the weigh of vertical conveyer and horizontal conveyer. It is the main parts that endure force. The dimension of arm is big and match weigh is big too. It is important to design the structure of arm in the design. We must pay attention to the design of arm structure. Now we know the productivity is 1200t/h. According to the productivity, the weigh of vertical conveyer and horizontal conveyer can be calculated. Based on those forces, the steel structure elementarily can be draw. ANSYS has widely analysis function. It is a FEA software used in many physical fields, the intensity of the arm is analysised with ANSYS. According to the result, modify the steel structure, analysis again, then modify again, until get the classic structure.(3) Simulation process of foodstuff. Weather foodstuff can be elevated from cabin, it effects the unloader process directly. Then the velocity of scraper is so important that it will decide productivity of chain unloader. Simulating the process of unload to analysisthe velocity of scraper can develop the productivity. As we all know, MATLAB has powerful calculation function and calculation result can be seen. Then the process can be simulated by MATLAB. The track of movement can be described, the movement under different velocity can be seen directly.
