With the rapid development of science and technology, traditional launch technologies are hardly meet people's special demands of launching apparatus in the aspect of velocity , because of its inherent limits and defects. The electromagnetic launch technology, which rose in recent years, is a leap of launch theory and launch technology, and gives a new approach to solve above mentioned problems. First, the paper reviews the present situation and course of development of technique of electromagnetic launching in aspects of domestic and abroad, simply compares and analyzes three typical types of electromagnetic launchers –coilgun, railgun and reconnection gun. The characteristic equations of circuit and kinematics are derived out. Based on the circuit model of single-stage coilgun, the magnetic field of single-stage coilgun is calculated by using the finite element software, then the full magnetic field distribution of single-stage coilgun is obtained. Moreover,the relationship of the inductance and inductance gradient with the position of projectile is also been obtained. The influence of different shape of projectile and the reasonable shape of the stator coil and projectile has been taken into account. As a result, reasonable size of stator coil and shape of projectile has been obtained. On the basis, a project used to simulate the electromagnetic process in the capacitor derived single-stage coilgun by Simulink is established. According to the project , the optimized initialization location and capacitance have been ascertained. In order to acquire the optimal parameter of single-stage coilgun, the influence of pre-charged voltage of driving capacitor, the mass of projectile, the resistance of loop is analyzed quantitatively. Besides, MCU used to measure the velocity of the projectile is designed. Finally, according to the result of theoretical study, the preliminary model of single-stage coilgun is designed completely and experiment has been done. The results of the experiment indicate that the model's performance is perfect and gives some foundation to continue study on this realm in the future.
