Any traffic demand distributes on certain space structure. As a result, highway transport network structure analysis aims at match traffic demand of urban agglomeration highway transport network, and pertinently improving urban agglomeration highway transport supply ability and highway transport network service level from the ontic and indwelling angel. This paper analyzes general urban agglomeration highway transport network structure law which can be used to guide highway transport network planning, especially when transport structure of urban agglomeration transforming largely and transport demand quantity of urban agglomeration increasing fast in the course of present fast urbanization of China moving to form urban agglomeration. Finally, designing logical and effective highway transport network after structure analysis could promote economic strength of urban agglomeration, guide its space develop sequentially, and urge it to attain sustainable development.The main contents of this paper are stated as follows:The second chapter summarizes general law of urban agglomeration highway transport network structure. Key factors influencing urban agglomeration highway transport network system are sought out by using systematic structure model analysis method. Three hierarchies of urban agglomeration highway transport network are abstracted such as metropolitan district, inter city and external highway transport. Four kinds of structure morphology such as network of ringy and radial road surrounding one central city, decentralized network with multiple central cities, zonal and stretchy network, and combined network are studied out.The third chapter studies passage traits of urban agglomeration highway transport network. Three types of passage and three structure of these passages are presented. This paper introduces demand forecasting steps of passage traffic volume, defines function of each type of passage, takes how to equip each passage systematically into account, discusses importance of expressway as a passage, and takes Chengdu metropolitan area as an example to analyze its passage traits.The fourth chapter takes one topology; i.e.; network of ringy and radial road surrounding one central city as an example to analyze structure characters of urban agglomeration highway transport network. Grounded upon abstracted graphics of network of ringy and radial road surrounding one central city; the function of city ringy road and radial road are mainly stated. Considering how travelers choose path; two-objective model; whose function was based on travel distance and general path impedance; was proposed; so as to determine reasonable radius and circular strip service width of urban agglomeration ring road. And Chengdu metropolitan area is taken as an example to calculate the logical radius length of urban agglomeration ringy road in this area by using two-objective programming model.
