Rigorous criteria are demanded on fragmentation and grade of Concrete Face Rock-fill Dam (CFRD) construction materials in order to meet the designed requirements of density. It is of great importance to qualify the blasting effectiveness in SHUIBUYA project due to its highest dam height of its type. In this paper, experiments and their results in SHUIBUYA project responding to its features and the designed requirements are introduced, and main blasting parameters of DIA and TTTR are proposed. The theory of fragmentation by blasting for CFRD is researched. Thus the optimum of blasting scheme on the base of minimizing total costs is researched. Works have been done as follows:First, the routine theories of rock fragmentation distribution in blasting are reviewed. And some defects, that the academic models are hard to use because of their rigorous hypotheses and complex calculation programs, and the parameters of some experimental models are difficult to get accurately by ignoring quite a few factors, are pointed out.Second, seventeen blasting experiments were carried out in SHUIBUYA project. The writer introduces how these experiments were designed and fulfilled, analyzes the results. The author also presents key methods how to determine the main parameters, such as every explosive and drilling meter, proposes main blasting parameters of ⅢA and ⅢB according to the features of SHUIBUYA project to guide blasting fieldwork.Third, although the Kuz-Ram model is comparative successful, it is essential to modify it because there are some shortcomings in the application to the field of quarrying CFRD construction materials. To make the Kuz-Ram model fit for the prediction of CFRD materials blasting distribution, based on the blasting experiments data collected from SHUIBUYA project and other projects, the model is modified reasonably including the modifications of parameter A, formula n, and formula (X|—) .In the light of modified model, functions minimizing the total explosive costs and their confines are set up. The confines consist of three aspects: 1.the designed curves and maximum diameter restrictions to parameter n ; 2.well graded restriction to parameter (X|—) ; 3.the designed curves restriction to parameter (X|—) . The nonlinearoptimization problem is resolved by take advantage of Constrained Variable Metric (CVM01), and the optimum of blasting scheme is researched by illustrating at the same time.By the end, the main conclusions of this paper are drawn and the successive works are looked ahead.
